Harvey Maguire is an internationally recognized fly fishing guide of 25 years guiding experience plus, and is a former President of the NZ Professional Fishing Guides Association. His involvement in fisheries management for many years has given him a unique knowledge of the fisheries. Harvey ties his own flies and has developed patterns to suit the many waters he guides his clients on.
Rainbow and brown trout are stalked in the local streams and lake edges. If you have the desire and skills to place your dry fly or nymph in the right spot plenty of action is assured. Lunch is provided. Multiple day trout fishing experiences are available and Harvey also specializes in putting his clients over large trout.

-
Backcountry Fly-Outs -
Harvey is developing new destinations every season and is constantly looking for great spots that do not get much angling traffic. These spots are rare and do require much research into the necessary permissions that are to be gained over private land. Harvey cannot be specific on the destinations for obvious reasons as the competition are always on the lookout for new destinations too.

Remote Backcountry
Fly Fishing Adventure -
Remote back-country sheep and cattle station have some of the worlds best dry fly fishing. Clear water, brown and rainbow trout live in the fragile habitat. Good casting skills with 12 to 15ft leaders are required to fool the wary trout, the clear water surely tests the ability, stealth and patience of the most experienced angler. A launch trip followed by an exciting farm track ride in a Landrover literally takes you right to the action. This is a popular fly fishing adventure.

Queenstown's Drift
Dry Fly Fishing:
A dear friend, former
colleague and internationally respected fly fishing guide, the
late Roy Moss (above) pioneered this method of fly fishing in
our region.
From around mid January to mid March the cicada hatch provides great dry fly fishing on our lakes and rivers. Patterns like yellow humpies, stimulators, elk hair cadis, Adams, Royal Wulff, and many special patterns that are tied by guides. The cicada are readily taken by trout and the bird life that live within the waterways ecosystem.

This method of drifting in a boat along
the lake edges does provide some of the best sight dry fly
fishing in New Zealand. There are only a relatively limited
number of days for fly fishing in the season 1st Oct --31st
May.
The best times are November to April. Book early to secure air travel tickets and GREAT FISHING!!
Check out the Air New Zealand flights to Queenstown with your Travel Agent as air travel to New Zealand is at a premium during the summer.

Important
In this time of Internet
purchasing of services, often from far off countries, there is
a risk that a web site may be over generous as to the level of
service that can be delivered. Claims that are made, as in the
case of guided trout fishing, are very difficult to verify.
There is one way to be sure that you do hire a true
professional. Always use a member of the
New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides
Association.
QUALITY
CONTROL
The
NZPFGA's
Constitution provides for rigid
controls to sustain a high level of professionalism and has
the power to discipline a member should he or she fall below
the required standard. Any person with a serious complaint can
send it to P.O. Box 1245 Gisborne. All complaints will
be dealt with quickly.
